Submissions

Book Manuscript Submission Guidelines: 

We welcome submissions from all around the world. we especially urge writers of bangladeshi origin to submit. Please note that the review process may take several months. We will contact you once a decision has been reached by our editorial committee.

We ask that you include the following in your submission:

  • Cover letter with the full legal names, postal addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of all authors/editors/translators.
  • A brief profile (150 words) of each author/editor/translator detailing current afiliation, past writing experience and publishing history
  • A synopsis (500 words or less) of the work being submitted
  • The proposed title
  • A wordcount of the complete manuscript
  • The genre and target audience
  • A table of contents/chapter list
  • Approximate date of completion (if work in progress)

Please send the above information to [email protected]. write “manuscript submission” in the subject line. You can include the cover letter in the body of the email. Please attach the manuscript in word document form, not pdf.


Journal Submission Guidelines: 

Bengal lights seeks submissions in poetry, fiction, flash fiction, creative non-fiction, personal essays and memoir. We will also consider short plays, artwork, photo essays and graphic novels. Translations from all languages will be considered. They should be accompanied by photocopies of the original work. We are also looking for fast-paced, on-site reportage on current issues.

We will not consider book reviews, critical literary essays, or academically-oriented work. Please submit only previously unpublished work. However, in the case of translations, depending on special cases (such as promoting upcoming bangladeshi writers, for example) and editorial discretion, previously published pieces will be considered. prose pieces have a limit of 5000 words. The prose word limit will be relaxed in the case of outstanding work. Poems have no limit. Simultaneous submissions are welcome but do notify us about it.

Please adhere to strict standards in terms of misspellings, typos, grammar and syntax. Works deficient in these areas will not be considered. We reserve the right to edit works as we see fit and to work with the writer on proposed re-writes and re-edits. The last date for submissions for the current issue, published in november, is 15th april. All submissions after that date will be considered for later issues.

Please send your work at [email protected]. write “submission print issue” in the subject line. a brief cover letter should be in the body of the email: include name, address, email address and the title. Send work as word attachments. Do not send docx attachments or text in the body of emails.

The website will be developed in the coming months. as befits a dynamic medium it will aspire to be far more topical and interactive: blogs, videos, book reviews, opinions, etc. In short, all the various elements that make for an interactive and vivacious website. Please send us your suggestions regarding the site’s evolution and development.

Works for the website can be submitted in any genre and nothing is off-limits. Previously published works can be considered if deemed suitable and relevant; if submitting such writing, please indicate previously published when and where. As we are not publishing any journal recently, please do not submit any work. Updates will be given in the website and ULAB Press facebook page.
